THE MACKELVIE TRUST

MAINTAINING THE MACKELVIE COLLECTION THROUGH CONSERVATION & ACQUISITION

James Mackelvie’s generous bequest remains one of the most remarkable gifts to Auckland.

In 1885, the collection was bequeathed to the people of Auckland, to be overseen by a newly established Mackelvie Trust.  This organisation has governed the Mackelvie Collection since that time to ensure that James Mackelvie’s wishes are honoured in perpetuity.

Today the Trust Board continues to maintain the collection through conservation and acquisition.  The collection is shared between Auckland Art Gallery, the Auckland War Memorial Museum and Auckland Libraries Heritage Collections.

To maintain the legacy of the Mackelvie Collection and ensure its ongoing relevance, the Mackelvie Trust relies on the generosity of our community to provide the vital funding necessary.

There are several ways you can support the Mackelvie Trust – by making a donation or bequest or by joining our newly established Mackelvie Society.  These opportunities are outlined below, along with contact details if you would like to discuss your interests with us in more detail.

Making a bequest to the Mackelvie Trust

You can follow in the footsteps of James Mackelvie by making a bequest of your own, so that you personally can be part of the collection’s future growth.  A bequest acknowledges the important role the collection has played in your life. Your gift will, in turn, continue to enrich the lives of future generations.

Bequests are managed by the Mackelvie Trust and we are happy to discuss with you any special areas of interest. If you would like to discuss your intentions with a representative of the Trust, please contact us by below.

Making a donation to the Mackelvie Trust

Your support for the Mackelvie Trust is greatly appreciated and the Trust accepts donations of all levels.

The Mackelvie Trust is a registered charity, so your donation will qualify for a tax rebate. You will receive a donation receipt so that you can claim the applicable tax rebate in respect of your donation.
